Conclusions from the FEPS seminar - "Rebuilding the Welfare State in Multicultural Societies" which took place in Tel Aviv, on May 26th, 2015.

Rebuilding the Welfare State in Multicultural Societies

The “Rebuilding the Welfare State in Multicultural Societies” was a co-operation of Macro Center, The Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS), Jean-Jaures Foundation and Karl Renner Institute.

The ongoing world trend of "market mechanism" penetration to various aspects of the modern life and services, alongside the rise of inequality, brings up the question of state's responsibility for welfare. The answer becomes difficult when considering the latest technological developments in the areas of communication and transportation which improved information accessibility and movements, and the massive waves of immigration.

The seminar dealt with the current challenges of the welfare state in the modern world, and in particular in societies with high levels of immigration and ethnic and religious diversity.
